In collaboration with Girls Club and ART FALLOUT 2010.

CALL FOR ENTRIES Info:

Open call for artists living in South Florida. Cash prizes and Catalogue. Artists living in the vicinity of South Florida are invited to submit artwork that responds to the theme of POWER. If you are within reasonable driving distance of Ft Lauderdale, FL, you may submit artwork. Open to all media, but contemporary approaches are encouraged, including 2D, 3D, Mixed media, Collage, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Digital art, Sculpture, Assemblage, Video art, and documentation of performance art. You may also submit a proposal for site-specific Installation art. Art must have been created within the last 10 years.

The Myth of Power visual art exhibition will feature the artist response to the subject of Power. This theme is open for interpretation. Prospective artists may explore and interpret individual conceptions of “power,” whether used for harm or for good; in regards to social doctrine, hierarchy, gender or racial inequity, or other forces of power, influence, or domination. Artists are encouraged to demonstrate or explore imagery of physical strength, heroism, idols, sovereigns, icons, etc.

Documentation of the artwork in Digital images, should be submitted by email before Midnight, August 22, 2010.
Jury fee is a donation of $5.00 for 1 or 2 images or $10 for up to 10 images. The jury fee will make you eligible for Cash prizes, including an audience choice award. You may also enter with no jury fee, but you will be ineligible for cash prizes.

→ Each digital image should be 72 dpi, RGB format, .jpg, .gif, or.pdf, at least 500k, no larger than 1 Megabyte.

EXHIBITION INFO:

The Opening night of The Myth of Power exhibition on October 16, 2010, will be part of the First Annual ART FALLOUT downtown Fort Lauderdale art tour. ART FALLOUT is a collaboration between Girls Club Art Collection, 1310 Gallery, 18 Rabbit Gallery, and other local venues. Each location will host their own new art exhibitions and events on the same night, and all participating venues will be cross-promoted on a printed map and flyer, and publicized in local newspapers. The Myth of Power exhibition will showcase the exceptional artworks from a diverse array of regional artists from surrounding communities, including Broward, Miami-Dade & Palm Beach counties. 1310 Gallery and ART FALLOUT are unified in the mission to celebrate the Broward County Cultural Division’s designation of October as “a month for art,” supporting the production and presentation of contemporary art in the local community. These events will bring both greater awareness and unity to arts establishments within the proximity of downtown Ft Lauderdale.

GALLERY & JUROR INFO:

1310 Gallery offers over 2400 square feet of exhibition space split into 3 levels, and housed within ArtSpace’s Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, in downtown Ft Lauderdale. 1310 Gallery is an artist run collective that rotates art exhibitions monthly. The gallery will print 5000 brochures to advertise the Myth of Power exhibition and at least 1000 catalogues that will and include all participating artists. Girls Club will be also distributing flyers for ART FALLOUT, which will also include marketing for this exhibition.

Lisa Rockford, Juror, received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lisa is a resident artist at Sailboat Bend artist Lofts and founding member 1310 Gallery. Lisa began curating Contemporary art exhibitions in her position as Art Services Director of the Dittmar Gallery at Northwestern University in 2000. As a visual artist, Lisa exhibits her artwork both nationally and internationally, has been featured on Chicago Public Radio, and covered by the Chicago Reader, Time Out Chicago, Peel Magazine, and the Miami Herald. Lisa was recently awarded the Innovative Collaborative Grant through Funding Arts Broward for her upcoming Solo show at the Art and culture Center in April 2011.

Lisa is inspired by the Contemporary artists’ response to issues of power: Banksy, Sarah Lucas, Hannah Hoch, Guerra de la Paz, Mauro Perucchetti, Liu Bolin, Daniel Edwards, Yinka Shonibare, the Guerrilla Girls, Ron English, Christian Holstad, Robert Craig, Barbara Kruger, Wangechi Mutu, Shirin Fakhim. Do Ho Suh, Gilles de Beauchene, among others.

ACCEPTED ARTISTS:
Accepted artists will be notified by September 1st, 2010. If accepted, each artist will be asked to pay a one time, $5 participation fee to go towards refreshments for the opening reception and a portion of marketing costs.

All Accepted artworks must be hand-delivered between October 8 – 12, 2010. (No shipping of artwork is permitted). Artworks must be ready for hanging or installation. Flat art does not need to be framed if it looks presentable hanging by clips. 2-D works must have hanging wire, sawtooth hangers, or hanging clips. 3-D must have their own platform, if needed. Installation art must be installed by the artist.

Artists are personally liable for their own artworks. Please note that 1310 Gallery will use utmost care in the handling and safety of your artworks, but because we are a non-profit collective, we are unable to offer insurance of your artworks. The gallery is locked during non-event hours and scheduled appointments.
Artworks must be picked up within 3 days after the end of the exhibition, between November 13-16, 2010.
